CELEBRATE THE BIG ONE!

FOR THE INVITES — (download in pink or red) and follow these easy peasy instructions:
1) open PDF in Adobe Reader (you can download Adobe Reader for free here)
2) place your cursor in the text box and type in your information
3) print out invites on white card stock
4) cut out
5) place in a A7 envelope (5 1/4″ x 7 1/4″) and pop in the mail!

FOR THE GIFT BACK STICKERS — (download in pink or red) and follow these easy peasy instructions:
1) open PDF
2) print out on 2.5″ round labels, which you can find at Paper Source here or use Avery Labels 5294
3) write your kid’s name
4) stick on gift/favor bags!

FOR THE THANK YOU CARDS — (download in pink or red) and follow these easy peasy instructions:
1) open PDF
2) print out on white cover stock
3) cut out
4) fill out thank you
5) place in an envelope A2 envelope ( 4 3/8″ x 5 3/4″) and pop in the mail!

SPLURGE VS. SAVE ON KID'S PARTY FAVORS

Traditionally, party favors are a small and inexpensive way to thank guests for attending your birthday party. When we were kids, it wasn’t uncommon to score a bag full of candy, bottle of bubbles or sheet of stickers at the end of a birthday party, but nowadays kids seem to leave with much more than just Pez candy. In some circles party favors average as much as $50 per kid. Over the years, we’ve seen many unique and creative party favor ideas, some of which were over-the-top while others didn’t cost more than a pack of gum. But what is the appropriate amount to spend on a birthday party favor? Do you save on your party guests, or splurge?
Here are a few of our favorite birthday party favors that the kiddos will love, and your pocketbook will too.
THANK YOU GUM – SAVE!
This party favor literally costs the amount of a pack of gum, plus a little extra for ink, paper and ribbon 🙂 We found this example along with the freebie download on SomewhatSimple.
PERSONALIZED WATER BOTTLES – SAVE
Colorful and useful, these personalized water bottles are an easy DIY and look custom-made. We found these at Etsy Shop JuneBugCustomGifts for $6 each.
GOLDFISH – SAVE
A goldfish is an unexpected and clever party favor that doesn’t cost more than a few dollars. Just make sure the parents are as excited as the kids are to bring these new pets home. We found this darling example on VintagePrettyPearl.
LEGOS – SPLURGE

Lego’s are a classic birthday gift and for the right party, even a fabulous party favor. At around $25 a piece, Lego sets would be a nice favor for a small family party. We found some pretty neat-o sets at Lego.com.
TUTUS – SPLURGE

Can you imagine the excitement of your little girl and all of her friends if they received their own tutu at her birthday party? We saw this idea on CatchMyParty. Tutus can be easily made, but we put this idea under our splurge category as making a handful of tutus would make you the hit of the party, but also suck away a lot of your time.
PERSONALIZED BIRTHDAY SHIRTS

The best favor of all (at least we think so)!! Personalized shirts for kids are thoughtful party favors and with so many unique designs, each guest will leave the party feeling extra special. We think our examples above would be great for a family party — and a great photo opportunity for all the cousins and siblings to be in matching, celebratory birthday tees! But don’t forget to get a couple personalized birthday shirts for the birthday kiddo too!

HANDMADE BY HILLARY – LOOK AT ME FABRIC BOOK

When you’re on the hunt for a perfect birthday keepsake, our personalized growth charts, 1st birthday shirts and personalized birthday shirts make a super special gift for your little ones.
We also put together this darling tutorial to create a fabric book, filled with pictures of your child — which they’ll LOVE to look at! It’s a perfect handmade birthday keepsake!
YOU WILL NEED:

Fabric scraps (at least 12.5″ x 6.5″ if you are doing a 6″x6″ book like we did)
Thin batting
Printable fabric (we found ours on Amazon) and/or fabrics with images you want in the book. For the cover of our Lily book, we used part of her Playful Owls tee that no longer fits her. You could fill the whole book with old tees, which would be such a great way to recycle tees that no longer fit your child.

HOW WE MADE OUR BOOK:
STEP ONE
First off, we sewed 4 pages total. To get started cut 2 of each fabric to 12.5″ x 6.5″. You should have 8 rectangles 12.5″ x 6.5″. Next cut 4 pieces of thin batting 12.5″ x 6.5″.

STEP TWO
Print and cut out your fabric photos — or whatever you want your pages to be made from for the interior pages.

STEP THREE
Next you need to figure out where you want each image in the book. We found it easier to just make a quick mock-up of the book on scrap paper so we could keep track of what photo goes where — just a little bit easier to “see” it.

STEP FOUR
Pin the photos/images on to each page. Next sew them onto each fabric piece where you have them pinned. We used a zig–zag stitch.

STEP FIVE
Now we are going to sew the pages together. Pin the pages with right sides together and a piece of the thin batting facing the wrong side of the fabric.

Sew around each page (make sure to change your stitch to a straight stitch if you were using zig–zag stitch previously) — and be sure to leave about a 3″ gap so you can turn the page right side out. Next, sew around all 4 pages.
STEP SIX
Turn your pages right side out and stitch up the gap on each page.
STEP SEVEN
Stack the 4 pages on top of each other and sew down the middle to create the binding. We did a double stitch down the middle. If your book is too thick to fit in your sewing machine, you can hand sew for this last step.

STEP EIGHT
Admire how adorable you little book is and think about how much fun it’s going to be for your little one to use.

HOORAY FOR THE BIRTHDAY BOY

Earlier this week we highlighted our new personalized birthday shirts for girls in our line of personalized shirts for kids, so of course we wanted to give a little love to our newest designs just for boys. In addition to the gender neutral designs like Colorful Number, Striped Monogram, and Superhero Birthday, we had fun creating looks we know your mini-man will love.

For boys who are crazy about anything that goes vroom-vroom, there’s the Bulldozer Number and Roaring Racecar tees, while the Crane Monogram is ideal for boys that are all about building things. The Big Balloon Monogram and Birthday Boy Tshirts are perfect for the wee ones that want to say it loud and proud that it’s their special day.

DIY: KID'S BIRTHDAY PARTY PHOTO BOOTH

When we were kids, one of the best things about going to the fair each summer was the photobooths, posing and making funny faces in black & white, color or with funny props. Now it’s easy enough to rent a photo booth, which are perfect for birthday parties. Not only are they a great activity to get the kids laughing and having fun, they’re a wonderful way to record the events of the party. Of course you can always create a photo area with a cool background and props if you don’t (or can’t) rent a photo booth.
Use the theme of the party to inspire the scene:

Summers are such a fun time for a child to have a birthday – the weather is great, the days are long, and of course there’s no school to worry about!

WONDER TEES ACTIVATE!

So we’re totally on a superhero kick if you haven’t notice! Not only did we grow up watching Spidey cartoons and reading X-Men comic books (we’re keeping mum on the Underoos), we look forward to every blockbuster movie that comes out. And we’re stoked we get to introduce our kids to the wonder of Wonder Woman and her golden lasso of truth, the mild mannered Clark Kent hiding his true Superman self behind those nerdy glasses, and all of the amazing superheroes that make up DC Comics’ Justice League and Marvel Comics’ Avengers.
