Baby Shower Theme: Orange

July and August are some of the hottest months of the year, also the months with the most births, so we’re guessing you’ve got a baby shower or two in your future. If you’re planning to throw a shower or just attend one, a sunny theme for décor and gifts is orange. This juicy hue is gender neutral, so whether you know the sex of the baby or not, you really can’t go wrong.

Cool Name of the Week: Penelope

When we heard that actress Anna Chlumsky of My Girl fame named her newborn daughter Penelope, we were reminded again of how much we adore this name, as well as its nickname Penny. Of Greek origin meaning weaver, Penelope is the 125^th most popular girl’s name in the US and now our Cool Name of the Week.

Naming Trend of the Week: Characters from Movies

Just the other day CNN reported that some of the most popular baby names for 2013 are Katniss, Merida, and Django – all as a result of recent box office smash hits like The Hunger Games, Disney’s Brave, and Django Unchained. As we wrote last week, books often inspire baby names, so it only makes sense that movies would as well.
We’ve chosen a few big brother tshirts, big sister tees, and personalized birthday shirts that would be ideal baby keepsakes for kids who were named for characters in some of our favorite movies.

Nursery Color Trend: Primary Colors

Primary colors were the original color scheme for most nurseries, but over the last few decades more and more nurseries have been inspired by parents’ personal aesthetic, as well as ever changing color trends, popularity of characters, etc. As much as we love sophisticated color palettes and all-white nurseries, we’re happy to see that primary colors are back in style and taking on a more modern approach while still maintaining child-like whimsy.

If you’re a big reader like we are, you know how easy it is to fall in love with some literary characters. Books become a part of you, so it’s no surprise their characters inspire baby names. We’ve picked some of our all-time favorite books and matched big sister tees and big brother tshirts with the main characters’ names.
