Of English origin deriving from the Hazelnut tree, Hazel is now the 175th most popular girl’s name in the US – up over one hundred places from #294 in 2009. Both its growing popularity and the way it reminds us of the beautiful , warmer shades of green that fall brings makes Hazel our Cool Name of the Week.
Inspired by the name, we think these big sister shirts would make great gifts for a big sister named Hazel.
Big sister shirts that feature a range of pretty greens are a nice choice for a Hazel. (Shown: Something to Say Big Sister Tshirt; Playful Doodles Big Sister Tshirt; Chic Style and Rock On big sister shirts)
The medicinal, soothing, and some say magical qualities of the witch hazel flowering plant and the sweet praline that is produced from a hazelnut give the name a naturally special meaning. (Shown: Sweet Treat and Sunny Flower big sister shirts)
Do you have a Hazel?

Naming Trend of the Week: Halloween Names
People look for baby naming inspiration pretty much anywhere and everywhere, including their favorite horror movies and TV shows. And with Halloween only a few weeks away, we’re sure there are plenty of parents out there watching those shows to get in the spirit of this frightfully fun holiday. Of course we know they don’t really want a little vampire or monster on their hands, but the sound of some of the characters’ names will still appeal to them. After all, when you like a name, you just like it!
We picked a few big brother shirts and big sister shirts that would be fitting for a little one with a name inspired by new or classic scary movies.
Even if they bring to mind some pretty scary characters, there’s no denying that Carrie and Damien are both really nice names. (Shown: Stamped Style Big Brother T shirt and Big Sister Tshirt)
Are you a fan of the Child’s Play movies or just like the name Charles and its diminutive Chuck (or Chucky)? Though Tiffany seems like an upbeat girl’s name from the 80’s, a fan of those movies will also know it’s Chucky’s bride’s name. (shown: Kids Play Big Brother T shirt and Big Sister Tshirt)
There’s no doubt that the Twilight movies, True Blood, and the wealth of vampire movies and TV shows that have become so popular have produced new names, as well as revived some classic ones. (Shown: Chic Style Big Brother T shirt and Big Sister Tshirt; Looks Like Me Big Sister Tshirt and Retro Style Big Brother T shirt)
Did a horror movie or monstrously famous TV show inspire your wee one’s name? If so, which of these big brother shirts and big sister shirts would you choose for them?
Color Trend: Shades of Pumpkin
Have you visited a pumpkin patch yet this month? If so, you may be inspired to incorporate the gourd’s cool color, which goes so well with aqua blues, browns, and yellows, among other pretty hues, into your little punkin’s room.
Here’s a fun selection of pumpkin-colored nursery décor, including personalized growth charts, bedding, wall art, cribs, etc.
No matter the theme, from retro to girly to gender-neutral, a personalized growth chart featuring shades of pumpkin work well for any room. (Shown: Get to Work, Vintage Circus, Birdie Buddies and Up Up Away personalized growth charts)

Décor Trend: Giraffes
There’s something really special about the graceful and grand giraffe. From their cool patterned coats to their long legs and necks, we love giraffes and think they make an especially chic, yet playful addition to any nursery.
We found some gorgeous giraffe themed nurseries and paired some of our personalized growth charts with them to help inspire you.

Cool Name of the Week: Jamie
Our Cool Name of the Week combines two trends, it’s a nickname that’s common enough to stand alone as a first name and it’s gender-neutral. Though Jamie is a derivative of the male James, Hebrew for supplanter, it has become a more popular name for a girl (#438 in 2012) then it is for a boy (#845).
Here are a few big sister shirts, big brother shirts, personalized onesies and 1st birthday shirts that would make perfect personalized baby gifts for any boy or girl named Jamie.
Actress Jaime King recently had a baby boy she named James, wonder if he’ll be a Jamie as well? (Shown: Modern Name and Classic Monogram personalized onesies)
Jamie is a cute, yet strong name for a girl, so it’s no surprise The Bionic Woman was a Jamie and that actress Jamie Lee Curtis has been playing bold leading characters for years (Halloween, True Lies, etc). (Shown: Super Sister and Skyline big sister shirts and Superhero 1st Birthday Shirts)
From talented actors (Jamie Foxx; Jamie Bell) to chefs (Jamie Oliver; Jamie Deen) and even Mythbusters (Jamie Hyneman), there’s a modern Renaissance man named Jamie that’s worthy of inspiring your boy to follow his passion. (Shown: Modern Fun Big Brother T shirt)
If you have a Jamie/Jaime in your life, which of these personalized baby gifts and 1st birthday shirts would you choose?

We’d pair the owl and black cat masks with big sister shirts and big brother shirts, like the Playful Owls Big Sister Tshirt and Big Brother T shirt and the clever animal theme of Merry Menagerie Big Sister Tshirt and Big Brother T shirt.
Wee ones wearing the Sweet Fox and Woodland Fun personalized onesies and this adorable fox mask will get plenty of treats and certainly no tricks.
Making our masks is easy!
First – download our masks here — our PDF included all 3 masks (fox, cat and owl) in both child and adult sizes.
Second – print your masks on card stock (and we actually recommend printing at a copy shop! they’ll print on a laser printer and the colors and ink will look nicer)
Third – cut our your masks, using a scalpel or razor to cut out the eyes
Finally – tape or glue a large popsicle stick on the back OR use string to tie around your head.
Happy Halloween!

It may sound cliché, but sometimes there’s just nothing wrong with giving a girl something pink and a boy something blue. We recently introduced some pink and blue onesies (as well as gray and our standard white to satisfy all tastes) and if you’re buying personalized baby gifts, we thought we’d round up some additional gifts to add to onesies to create a fantastic, custom gift set.

With Halloween on the horizon, we’ve got candy on the brain! And what sweeter color scheme is there for a nursery than one inspired by candy? We found this Candy Land inspired nursery design on Roomzaar and went looking for some sweet décor pieces, like personalized growth charts, rugs, frames, etc., that would accent a similarly decorated baby’s room.
A personalized growth chart is an easy way to add color to any nursery. (Shown: Color Me, Colorful Words, My Town, We All Scream personalized growth charts)
