Birthdays are a special time for kids – they get to wear personalized birthday shirts, open presents, and generally get a ton of attention. It can be a little rough for young children though when it’s their sibling’s big day and they’re feeling left out or confused. There are a few ways to help kids feel excited for their sib and not jealous.
- Get kids involved by having them choose or make a gift for their sibling
- Give kids small tasks or responsibilities to help with the birthday party preparation
- Allow kids to invite one friend of their own to the birthday party
- Give kids a few minutes of extra attention that day, whether it’s simply snuggling with them, reading an extra story, etc
