We are all about animals here at Petite Lemon — from our personalized growth charts to our big sister tshirt and big brother tshirt collection, we’ve got charming owls, fun sea creatures and a pile of zoo animals for everyone! So to go along with each and every animal themed growth chart and our personalized tshirts for kids collection, our Handmade by Hillary DIY this month is the cutest fishing game of all time!
Here’s what you’ll need (we made 6 fish, but you can always make more!):
– 1 wooden dowel
– 18 inches yarn
– 6 miscellaneous socks (we used size 6-12 mo.)
– 12 buttons (for the fish eyes)
– 7 magnets (1 for each fish and 1 for the fishing pole)
– stuffing
– 1 metal washer
– miscellaneous ribbon for embellishing
– paint (if you want to paint your fishing pole)
1) Turn all of the socks inside out. You are going to sew up the heal on each sock. Just a straight line — see diagram in the picture below:
2) Place a magnet in the toe of each sock. We put a little glue on there so it wouldn’t shift around while you are stuffing the fish. Stuff the fish with stuffing up to where the heal was.
3) You are going to sew buttons on for the fish eyes. You could also use googly eyes or felt if you wanted. Then tie off the end of the fish with ribbon or string.
4) Take your wooden dowel and cut it down to the size you want your pole to be. There is no right or wrong here. You could have a long or short fishing pole. We painted our pole pink, but you could leave it the wood color if you want. Tie one end of your yarn to the washer and attach a magnet to the end. Tie the other end to the top of your fishing pole.
5) Admire your adorable little fish.
6) Let your little one play with it.
Happy Fishing!!
