This month’s Handmade by Hillary is a special spooky tutorial! We made these awesome cheesecloth ghosts which are the perfect porch decoration as they “fly” around with the Fall wind!
YOU’LL NEED:
— balloons (any size will work, you choose depending on the size you want your ghosts to be)
— fabric stiffener (this is the kind we used, but any will work)
— cheesecloth
— craft cones (this is the kind that we had on hand, but you could use plastic cups, empty paper towel rolls, anything to prop up your balloon to make a mold for your ghost)
– lollipop sticks (these are optional, but we used these in our molds to make ghosts with arms, you could also use chopsticks)
HOW TO:
ONE build your molds.
We put the balloons on top of the styrofoam cones and secured them with tape. Then added some lollipop sticks to some of them for the arms for ghosts. Build as many molds as you want ghosts.
TWO cut your cheesecloth into squares or strips, we cut ours in about 12″x12″ squares.
THREE pour your fabric stiffener into a bowl. Take each cheesecloth square and dunk it in the fabric stiffener. Ring out the excess liquid. Now drape the cheesecloth over your mold.
We put about 4-5 layers of cheesecloth on each ghosts. You can do as many or few layers of cheesecloth as you want.
FOUR let your ghosts dry. We left ours overnight, but they should be dry within a couple hours. Pop your balloons and take your ghosts off of the molds.
FIVE hang your ghosts up and watch them sway and twirl!
Happy Halloween!
