We love the impact certain traditions had on our childhoods almost as much as we love celebrating birthdays, so now that we’re parents we wanted to create some birthday traditions for our kids to cherish as they grow up.
Though we’re somewhat obsessive about marking our kids’ growth on their personalized growth charts on a regular basis, each year on their birthday is a special milestone marker. To highlight each passing year, you can draw a star, use stickers, or use a specific colored pen to mark the date next to their height line.
We love the idea of a birthday interview that we saw on the Kiwi Crate blog. Reading your child’s responses from year to year will definitely pull at your heartstrings, make you laugh, and wonder at their rapidly expanding vocabulary, growing personalities, and funny quirks.
Making it Lovely featured an amazing idea to document your child’s growth through photography that would be perfect for a birthday party, especially if your kiddo wears a similar crown or outfit (like one of our fun personalized shirts for kids or personalized birthday shirts) from year to year.
We also love the idea of a “teaser gift” to give your child right when they wake up on their special day (we saw this idea on MooreMinutes.com)! It wouldn’t have to be anything big and fancy to be special. How about a new book, lego set, a new stuffed animal or a new birthday tee from our personalized birthday shirts collection. Just be sure to use balloons, streamers or even a banner to make it an extra special first gift of the day!
What are some of your family traditions for your kids’ birthdays? We’d love to hear how you make the annual celebration special, so please share them in the comments section.
