A darling little tutu is the perfect fit for a darling little girl. It’s easy to make your very own with a crochet headband and a spool of tulle.
You will need:
– scissors
– 6″ spool of tulle (we found ours on Amazon.com here)
– crochet headband (we also found ours on Amazon.com here)
Next, follow these simple instructions:
1. Determine how long you want your skirt. Our example is about 8″ long. Cut pieces of tulle twice the length you want your skirt, plus 1″. We cut our strips to 17″.
2. Thread the strips of tulle through the gaps at the bottom of the headband. Tie each piece of tulle to the headband in the middle, so you will have equal amounts of tulle on either side.
3. Continue tying the tulle around the bottom of the headband until you have filled all of the gaps. You should have a nice full skirt.
Pair your new tiny tutu with a matching onesie for the perfect photo opportunity. We are excited to share that we’ll soon be launching personalized onesies, that would be the perfect tutu addition.
We hope you enjoy your new tutu!

TSHIRT REPURPOSING – MAKE A DRESS
We all own Tshirts that we once loved and sadly, they no longer fit us, they were stained , have gone out of fashion, etc. Instead of getting rid of your once favorite top, refashion it!
Refashioning is becoming very popular and there are lots of great blogs with great tutorials and DIY’s. We wanted to share with you some cute re-fashions for adult Tshirts into child sized clothing.
The following two adorable dresses — made from Tshirts — are both from a fabulous blog MakeIt-LoveIt.
You can find this cute blue one here.
And, this red one can be found here.
We also love how cute this toddler skirt turned out that Melissa Esplin made from an old favorite shirt of hers that sadly got stained. Here is a link to the tutorial.
She also made this other darling bow skirt out of an old dress, or you could also use an old Tshirt. Check out the tutorial here.
If you haven’t fallen in love with any of these Tshirt ideas, turn all of your old Tshirts into new memories by turning them into a quilt. Check out this neat site to get some great ideas.
Looking to see more on Tshirts? More to come from us soon including First Birthday TShirts and Personalized Onesies as well as our favorite Big Sister Tshirt and Big Brother Tshirt.
Happy Tshirt Refashioning!

CARING FOR YOUR CANVAS GROWTH CHART
Your child’s new personalized growth chart is a timeless keepsake, so we’ve dedicated this post to tips to help you care for it.
Our canvas is made from natural materials and printed with the highest quality, archival inks to create richly colored, long lasting wall décor. Canvas growth charts feature aluminum corner grommets to help you display your new keepsake.
Here are a few more tips to help you care for your personalized growth chart:
How Do I Hang My Growth Chart?
Hang growth charts with push pins or ribbon (not included). Hang bottom of growth chart 24” or 2 feet above floor. Check out this previous post on other creative ways to display your personalized growth chart. And, when choosing a place to hang your growth chart, select a location not in direct sun light.
What Do I Use to Write On My Growth Chart?
Mark your child’s height and age with a fine point, permanent marker. We love Sharpie pens!
Can I wipe down my growth chart?
If you need to clean your canvas growth chart, you can wipe it gently with a soft dry cloth.
What if my canvas growth chart wrinkles or my child folds it?
If your canvas wrinkles or your little one gets carried away playing with their wall growth charts (our little Emmy loves to hide behind hers and play hide and seek), you can gently iron the BACK of the growth chart at a low temperature.
What if the edges of my canvas growth chart curl?
Our premium canvas is made primarily of cotton, and natural fabrics sometimes have a tendency to curl. If your canvas growth chart curls, you can spray down the back side of your chart with a touch of water and then iron the backside of the canvas at a low temperature. If curling persists, try double sided mounting adhesives like these. Finally, try changing locations. Changes in temperature and humidity may cause your natural cotton canvas growth chart to curl as well. Avoid displaying your growth chart next to permanently open windows and air vents.
What kind of photo should I include for my photo growth chart?
We can only accept photos that are JPG, PNG, and TIF. For the best image resolution, upload uncropped images that are at least 3MB (and no more than 10MB). If you have questions about your photo, we’d be happy to take a look. Simply email your photo to us at contact@petitelemon.com.
What is the unit of measurement on growth charts?
Our growth charts come standard with inches to track your child’s growth. If you prefer metric, please say so in the special request box while entering your order and we will fulfill your request.
What if I’d like to request special colors? What if I’d like added personalization?
All of our designs are available with custom colors upon request. Please email us a contact@petitelemon.com to learn more. If your child’s name is longer than the maximum characters allowed, or you would like to include 2 names, please make a note in your order — we are happy to accommodate.
We hope you enjoy your personalized growth chart!

WHY TRACK YOUR CHILD'S HEIGHT?
First off, it’s fun!
Kids love to see how much they’ve grown! They love the fun of standing next to their very own personalized growth chart and being measured by mom or dad. Seeing if they’ve grown ½ an inch or 2 inches is a thrilling experience for any little one. Or for some little ones, the thrill is to see if they are as tall as the hippo or owl or elephant on the growth chart.
Make it fun for them by measuring their height consistently. Measure on their ½ and quarterly birthdays as well as Holidays. Some moms we know even like to measure monthly. Involve other siblings by measuring them at the same time — or measure your child’s favorite stuffed animals or dolls too. You can also track milestones in conjunction with their height on their growth chart — when they were first potty trained, when they had their first t-ball game, when they learned to ride a bike, etc.
It’s healthy to measure!
Tracking your child’s height will help ensure proper growth for them — you’ll be able to make sure your little one is on the right track. Children grow the most during their first year of life and it begins to slow between 1 and 2. After 2 your child’s height should grow consistently until they hit their adolescence growth spurt.
Capture childhood!
Our little ones grow so fast…one moment your rocking an infant and the next moment your 4 year old is embarrassed to kiss you in front of his friends at preschool. Your personalized growth chart allows you to document and preserve your little one’s childhood. Capture childhood – it only comes by once!
To measure accurately:
— Make sure your child is barefoot
— Stand them against their growth chart with feet flat
— Keep their arms at their sides and shoulders level
— When you are measuring, make sure your eyes are the same level as your child’s head — you’ll be on your knees
And if you are looking for ways to display your growth cart, check out this post.
Happy Measuring!

MAKE A BIRD MOBILE
Birds and owls are such a cute and classic theme for your nursery. Not only do we love them, but our Hoot Hoot Owl Growth Chart is one of our most popular canvas growth charts. We thought it would be great to share this darling bird mobile tutorial with you. Our very own Hillary made this for her new little lemon’s nursery.
You’ll Need:
- 2 small tree branches (no leaves)
- A few colors of felt that coordinate with you nursery color scheme (you could also use scrap fabric or quilt squares, but felt is nice because it’s thick and durable)
- Twine or colored string
- Needle and thread
- Stuffing
- Hot glue gun
- Hook (or other materials that you need to hang your bird mobile from your ceiling)
First, download and print off our bird pattern here.
(Thanks to PurlSoho.com whom we based our bird pattern off of)
Next, cut out different colored bird pieces using our pattern. For each bird, cut out 2 bird body pieces and 4 wing pieces. Then hand stitch your bird together following pattern, but leave a bit of room near the wings to stuff. Then stuff and close your bird. Add wings with an X stitch as you can see in the pattern.
And then to hang your mobile, attach a screw into your ceiling (or whatever type of hanging device you desire). Next hang string or twine from your hook to your first branch and then hang your 2nd branch to the first. Now that your branches are in place, you can start hanging your birds.
To attach your birds, hang a small piece of the same twine or string over a branch to the desired length and attach it in between the bird’s wings with hot glue or stitch in place. Keep adding birds as you please and make your mobile unique to you and your nursery!
We hope you enjoy your new mobile!
