BEAUTIFUL CHOCOLATE NURSERIES
Fall is such a beautiful time of year, with so many colors to inspire décor options for nurseries. Reds, oranges, yellows, and greens are all rich colors, but right now we’re especially loving the idea of chocolate brown. It works equally well for boys and girls, for accent pieces or focal points, adding a warmth and depth to the room.
We rounded up some of our favorite nurseries that feature this delicious hue, which is your favorite?
This chocolate brown polka dotted chair is a beautiful focal point in this nursery (image found on Pinterest), which would be accented nicely with the graphic patterns on the 1 to 10 personalized growth chart.
Woodland themed personalized growth charts would work well in this sweet, cozy feeling nursery and add just the right amount of color. (image from Pinterest)
With so many graphic accents, like this stunning brown chevron print rug, it’s best to keep it simple with pennant-style personalized growth charts in coordinating colors. (Image from Pinterest)
The chocolate brown wall adds a touch of sophistication to this whimsical giraffe-themed white and pink nursery, which would be nicely complemented with our Zoo Friends personalized growth chart. (image found on Pinterest)
Textures and patterns keep this brown nursery from feeling too dark and to add some lightness, we would add a pop or two of color, like with the vibrant letters on our Spell My Name personalized growth chart (Image from Pinterest)

TRANSITIONS
So much time and energy goes into designing the nursery for your first child, that when it’s time for them to move into a big boy or girl room, it’s kind of hard to let go. Luckily though there are several items that can easily transition from a nursery to a kid’s room so you can hold on to a few things, at least for a little while longer.
Of course if the crib is a convertible one, that makes it a lot easier. Here are a few more accent pieces that can make the move along with your child.
Removable wall decals, like this one from WeeDecor, aren’t permanent and can be moved as needed. (We love the owl on a tree limb, such a great symbol of growth!)
Your name is cool, whatever your age! There are lots of ways to display your child’s name. We love this name banner from Land of Nod.
A personalized big kid chair is a perfect room addition. Also a plus, it encourages reading as they transition from learning their ABC’s to big kid chapter books! We found these chairs at Pottery Barn Kids.
What shows your child’s actual physical growth from infant to toddler to big kid more than their personalized growth charts?
BOYS AND GIRLS
There’s been a lot of discussion in the media lately about gender, like this piece on Babble, about why boys often like trucks and girls tend to prefer dolls. As parents, we’ve seen it ourselves and have had plenty of playground conversations with other parents who are sometimes slightly bewildered by their toddler’s obsession with princesses or tractor wheels. But we believe that kids love what they love when they love it and then they eventually move on to the next thing – pirates or ballerinas or dump trucks and dolls.
This is why most of our personalized growth charts and big sister tshirt and big brother tshirt designs come in options and colors that appeal to both boys and girls.
People often think of dinosaurs and robots as things boys like, but we know better, which is why our Dino-Mite personalized growth chart comes in Grape or Blue, while our Blast Off personalized growth chart comes in Cosmic Blue or Pixie Purple.
Rock On big brother tshirt/big sister tshirt and Super big sister tshirt/big brother tshirt)
Superheroes are strong and rock stars are cool, and both definitely appeal to boys and girls alike.
Whatever they prefer, we just love their sense of discovery and are especially happy when they are sharing their trucks and dolls with each other and not fighting over them!
DINO-MITE! Personalized Tshirts for Kids and Personalized Growth Charts
As big fans of dinosaurs, we’re super excited a new Jurassic Park is in the works, but we were even more thrilled to learn that Pixar is creating The Good Dinosaur – and it’s being directed by Bob Peterson who did Up (LOVE that movie!). Sadly neither movie will be released until 2014, so we’ll just have to get our fill of dinos elsewhere.
Of course we don’t have to look too far, we’ve got pretty adorably designed personalized growth charts and tshirts, plus we’ve found some other décor and clothes that are dino-mite.
Boys and girls alike will love growing up alongside Triceratops, Brachiosaurus, Tyrannosaurus Rex, and Pterodactyl on our Dinomite personalized growth chart.
We love how Offbeat Home hung these plastic dinos, turning them into some seriously cute décor for a nursery or kid’s play room.
Style and whimsy is just our thing, so we’d hang a collection of these silhouettes from AlleyKids on Etsy in a collage style in our kids’ room.
Punchy colors and pet dinos! What more could you ask for in a pillow than this Dino Days Pillow from PoppintreeHollow on Etsy.
Any little T-Rex will be thrilled to wear their own Name-O-Saurus personalized tshirts for kids.
Oh baby, this dino bib from CMH Design on Etsy is a roaring big hit with us mamas!
And how cute is this dino hat for newborns from LuvKnotz on Etsy?! Just made us smile!
HANDMADE BY HILLARY: THANKFUL FOR THANKSGIVING BOX
Turkey Day is just around the corner and for this month’s Handmade by Hillary DIY, we’re making a thankful for Thanksgiving box to send off to our loved ones that we won’t be near this year.
YOU’LL NEED …
— a box for shipping, we found ours at a local paper supply store
— tissue, to line the package
— various treats and snacks, Thanksgiving themed of course
— little decorations such as a pennant, crepe paper, etc
— heavy weight paper for our printables
— scissors and tape
ONE print off our thankful printables (download here), which you’ll use in various elements of our box! Our 3 page PDF includes 1 sheet of thankful circles and a dotted stripe to decorate your little jars and treats, 1 “thankful for” sheet to fill out and share with your loved ones, and 1 paper football tutorial — perfect for the little ones to play while the big boys are busy watching the game!
TWO we lined our shipping box with orange tissue to add a bright, pop of fun and festive color — you could use any fun tissue you have at home.
THREE we filled our box with treats and snacks. For our Thanksgiving “turkey” we bought turkey jerky and for our “mashed potatoes” we included sour cream and cheddar potato chips. We also included little mason jars filled with fall colored candies and included a few orange and brown candy canes — we wrapped them together with the stripe in our printable and topped the jars with our thankful circles, which you can download here.
FOUR we made a little fabric pennet by cutting out mini triangles with pinking shears and attaching them to a ribbon. You could also include crepe paper or any other fun decorations you can think of!
FIVE fill out the thankful for list and include a few photos to share with your loved ones. We enclosed our pics in a little envelope and added another thankful circle (download here).
SIX send your thankful box off to your loved ones! Gobble Gobble!
