ONE LITTLE WORD 2012
This month is all about new beginnings, setting goals and establishing resolutions for 2012. Last year at this time we each chose a word to represent the New Year. This idea, One Little Word as it’s referred to, is a movement started by blogger AlliEdwards.com. She describes it perfectly “Regardless what word you select, choosing a word means you want to make your life even better than it is today. The very essence of One Little Word is improving your life …”
Last year our fearless leader Paula selected the word, BALANCE.
Last year I chose the word balance because I love to do more, be more, give more and it’s all about balance. Life can be a joyful balance (or insanely crazy).
This year Paula selected the word ENJOY.
My goal for this year is to enjoy what it is — be in the moment, love in the moment, laugh in the moment and enjoy every single minute of it. Having kids, running a household, working, maintaining relationships with friends and family — it can easily become overwhelming trying to make it all work. So, instead of getting overly worked up or stressed out I’m going to take a deep breath and ENJOY this precious ride.
Last year our beloved Hillary selected the word, SAVOR.
This past year brought a big change in our lives. We had a little baby. She is 8 months now. I chose SAVOR last year because I knew I was leaving one stage in my life and entering into an entirely different stage. The beginning of the year was all about SAVORING life without a baby. Enjoying those moments sleeping through the night. Enjoying those moments with just my husband and myself…playing games, going to the movies, going out to eat, going on spontaneous weekend outings, etc. The end of the year was all about SAVORING the moments with my daughter. Babies grow up way too fast and transition through stages in their lives very quickly. I have to say, with the added responsibility of caring for a newborn and sleepless nights, I didn’t SAVOR the last half of the year as much as I would have liked to. My little girl is already 8 months and I don’t know where the time went. I have had little moments when rocking her to sleep or feeding her where I can sit, enjoy and SAVOR those moments. I loved thinking about SAVORING the little moments this year and hope I can SAVOR years to come.
For 2012, Hillary has selected the word FOCUS.
With all of the new things and changes in my life this last year, I am not as good of a multi-tasker as I used to be. My word is FOCUS. I would like to FOCUS on one task at a time and try not to juggle a million things at once. If I am working, I am focusing on work. If I am being a mom, I am focusing on that. If I am relaxing, exercising, enjoying life, etc., then I am going to FOCUS on those things individually. That is my goal for the year. I think I will be able to get more things done and get them done more effectively.
Last year, I chose the word FAITH.
I’m a planner, A-type personality, control freak — a Leo. I want to know that it will all work out today, now, at this very second. I want to know what my future holds, in the present. Unfortunately, that’s not how this game works. So last year, I chose the word FAITH. I wanted 2011 to be the year that I lived my life, relaxing, breathing, and having faith in myself — knowing that I’ve made it this far and my future is bright because I’m in the driver’s seat.
For 2012, I’m going with the word ADAPT.
Life is constantly throwing us curve balls and 2011 was my World Series. After getting hit countless times, I’ve decided this year I need to better learn to adapt — to modify, adjust, refashion, revamp, tailor, improve, amend, refine, tweak, and my favorite, to rejig when something comes flying towards me.
Albert Einstein said that insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results. No need for that. Simply rejig.
This past year has been a wonderful one and we’re looking forward to all that 2012 has to offer. We’ve made lots of new friends on Facebook, we added to our collection of personalized growth charts, and we’ve had lots of fun on Pinterest. This year we’re looking forward to launching our big brother tshirt and big sister tshirt collections and sharing our personalized onesies and first birthday tshirts with you.
If you have selected One Little Word for 2012 we’d love for you to share it with us by leaving a comment or letting us know on our Facebook fan page.
Happy New Year!

LEARN MORE ABOUT OUR 2011 HOLIDAY CARD COLLECTION
We’ve been delightfully designing Holiday cards for Shutterfly for several seasons and thoroughly enjoy bringing Holiday greetings to your loved ones each year. There are many elements that bring our cards to life and we find inspiration everywhere! We’ve put together this blog post to give you a little insight into what goes into creating a Shutterfly Holiday card designed by Petite Lemon.
The Perfect Saying
Selecting a holiday sentiment is truly the beginning to designing a Holiday card. We find inspiration everywhere — music, movies, and of course online. Our 2011 card collection includes sentiments that are fun and delightful such as “Wishing you a Holly Jolly Christmas”, cheerful and charming like “Sending Holiday Cheer”, something a little witty like “Bah Hum Bug!” or a twist on a classic saying such as “Merry and Bright”. There are a plethora of fun and creative ways to say “Merry Christmas” or “Happy Holidays” and we’ve included a host of them in our 2011 collection.

Realistic & Textural Elements
This year we’re brought in some new, real live textures such as antique papers, glitter and satin ribbons. These realistic elements are inspired by wrapped presents under the tree, Holiday crafting and old-time classic Christmas themes — we have designed several cards this year to showcase these ideas.

Type
We love type! A large typographical element is a beautiful way to express a Holiday sentiment. This year we’ve been inspired by hand written calligraphy and handwriting . Custom handwriting is a unique and stunning way to showcase classic Holiday sentiments such as “Joyful”, “Blessed”, and “Alleluia”. We’re thrilled to share these elegant expressions with you this Holiday season.

Color and Patterns
We’re inspired by all sorts of color combinations — as you can see in our 2011 Holiday card collection. We believe that Christmas isn’t only represented by traditional red and green colors. We’ve expressed the joy of the Holiday spirit with browns, blues, bright greens, and yellows! We’re inspired by bright colors we’ve seen on wrapping papers, window store treatments, and tree ornaments. The same goes for patterns. We’ve created fabulous cards using unique custom patterns such as a twist on the traditional snowflake or gingham print with rich colors and cheerful elements.
