For our Cool Name of the Week, we simply looked to this time of the year for inspiration. No, we’re not choosing Pumpkin Spice Latte, which seems to be on everyone’s mind and Facebook posts lately when asked what fall means to them. Gender neutral names are always interesting and everyone has an opinion if it’s better for a girl or a boy. Our Cool Name of the Week is used for both boys and girls and also has two different popular spellings, each of which seems to have a different origin and meaning. Spelled Peyton, it is the 53rd most common name for girls and 183rd for boys, but when spelled Payton, it’s #103 for girls and #458 for boys. We found that the Peyton spelling is of Latin origin meaning “noble,” while Payton is of Scottish origin meaning pastor or guardian. Either way, we think it’s pretty cool!
